THE PROCESS

After conducting research, the second semester of class was used to contextualize findings by means of physical object making. I chose to center my focus of my installation on the queer community in particular, as I am queer and feel passionately about depicting my experience as it relates to identity and my community. My process of making these pieces began with wanting to make art that people could directly interact with as opposed to only viewing it, so I constructed wearable art pieces in line with the visual identity I had formed during my research. This abstraction of theme is important to me as I feel that many depictions of queerness in art can be over generalized and categorized, which is the exact opposite of the fluidity I am trying to promote.
